Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun ~ Review
“A feel good romantic comedy that is guaranteed to make you feel warm and fuzzy”
Don’t you just love the feeling when you’ve just watched something really heart-warming and you feel so warm and fuzzy on the inside? The kind of feeling that makes you want to go hug someone nearby for no apparent reason? Then you need to watch this cute little series if you haven’y yet watched it, because it will leave you feeling like that after every episode.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun revolves around Shizuku, a high school girl who’s main priority is to study. Thus Shizuku is very oblivious to romance; something that is very alive in the high school environment. One day, she meets Haru; a delinquent and unique character who rarely attends school. He immediately greets her as friends, and thus starts the odd relationship between Haru and Shizuku. Although the two are oblivious to romance in more than one way, they soon start to have feelings for each other and at the same time, learn the wonders of pure romance.
The anime became a large success online and many anime fans have credited it for its clever use of comedy and romance/drama.
The anime ran for 13 episodes and ran during the Fall 2012 season (the anime ending just yesterday from the time of this writing). The anime is based off a shoujo manga series, which recently has become quite a popular genre of anime in the online anime community. The anime is animated by Brain’s Base Studios who, although not as well known, animated such well-acclaimed series as Baccano!, Natsume Yuujinchou and Durarara!!.
The anime contains many well-known voice actors including Tomatsu Haruka who voices Shizuku (and also voices Lala from To LOVE-ru and Asuna from Sword Art Online) and Tatsuhisa Suzuki who voices Haru (and also voices Yuuji from Baka to Test to Shoukanjyuu and Sugata Eishiro from Sora no Otoshimono).
According to Animeultima.tv, the series is voted as being the most popular anime series of the Fall 2012 anime season (followed closely by series such as K, BTOOOM! and Code:Breaker), which shows that the online anime community approves of this series. It is one of those anime series that you can watch to relax your heart and soul; it is light-hearted and fun to watch. If you like your shoujo manga or your romantic comedy/drama genres, then you will surely fall in love with this great series.
