The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time: #20 – #11

~ The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time: #20 – #11 ~

Anime openings… it’s only a short minute and a half long, but it gives us just that little glimpse of the big picture. The stories, the characters and the overall feel of the anime series can be presented so well (and entertainingly) in a minute and a half. Us anime watchers love those anime openings; whether it’s listening to the song, watching the animation sequence, or in most cases: both! Some anime openings are better than others in more than many ways… but which are the best of the best?

Well, here it is! The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time as chosen by you! The anime lovers, fans and fanatics of the online wonderland!
I’ve been collecting votes for about 2 months, and the feedback was extraordinary.
In a little under 2 months, we managed to collect a whopping 3473 VOTES!
That’s truly amazing! And I thank each and every one of you that voted! Thanks to you guys, I managed to create a list that truly separated the good openings from the epic openings.
Although I had absolutely no part in this list, it seems that my anime-music sense was spot on with the rest of the community; most of my favourite’s obtaining a spot in the top 100.

Well… without further ado, let’s start presenting the Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings of All Time!
I have spit the list into a number of parts (to gain a little tension effect) so for this post, here is #20 to #11 in the Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings of All Time!

#20. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OP – “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni” by Shimamiya Eiko

To open up the Top 20, we have an open that introduced us to possibly one of the most horrific and disturbing anime series ever written. If you’ve never seen any of the Higurashi series yet, this is a series that will definitely test your sanity by the end of it. But this OP is just so creepy and strange that it fits the series too damn well. If it wasn’t for this OP we wouldn’t have a calm mind before the episodes started, and that would’ve lead to problems.

#19. Bleach OP 6 – “ALONES” by Aqua Timez

And of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without some Bleach OP’s, right? I mean, everybody loves Bleach (while it was still good, that is) and I think personally, this is the last good OP from Bleach. I just the intro bit how the lead singer of the song and Kon’s singing matches so well. It’s hilarious. Overall, good OP.

#18. Bleach OP 3 – “Ichirin no Hana” by High and Mighty Color

Aaaaaaaannnd here’s another Bleach OP. Just a note of warning, you will start to see a lot more “mainstream anime” OP’s than before. But don’t complain to me; you’re the ones that chose these OP’s, not me. I personally didn’t really like this OP that much, but I guess I was the 1% that thought so since this got to #18.

#17. Naruto OP 4 – “GO!!!” by FLOW

Of course, straight after Bleach, we have yet another mainstream anime OP, this time from Naruto. But the difference is, I really like this OP. It wasn’t the best Naruto OP (as you’ll see later on) but I think I understand why it got placed at #17. And just to clarify, many people think the song is called “Fighting Dreamers”, but the official title of the song is “GO!!!”.

#16. Naruto Shippudden OP 1 – “Hero’s Come Back!!” by nobodyknows+

This time, we have NOT Naruto, but Naruto Shippudden! But I’m not gonna flame on mainstream anime in this one. Why? Because this song is too f**king epic to flame on. I think out of all the Naruto and Naruto Shippudden OP’s, this one was BY FAR the best one (I even explain why in my post “Top 10 Anime Songs That I Personally Can’t Stop Listening To”). Awesome song with awesome OP animation.

#15. Samurai Champloo OP – “Battlecry” by Nujabes feat. SHINGO2

Does this OP really need an explanation? Seriously, everybody who has watched this series knows why exactly this OP is #15 on this list. You can go as far as to say that this OP is what made Samurai Champloo what it is today: an amazing cult series (you could also say that the ED also did the same thing). I’m so very happy this OP made it this far up the list.

#14. Naruto OP 2 – “Haruka Kanata” by Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Aaaaaand we go right back to some more Naruto. But the difference is that this time, it’s a song by that one band that everybody likes; of course I’m talking about Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I don’t know why, but Asian Kung-Fu Generation has this strange power of getting their songs stuck in your head and never go away. Great OP.

#13. Ouran High School Host Club OP – “Sakura Kiss” by Kawabe Chieko

Now I might get a lot of hate when I say this but… am I the only one that didn’t really find this anime that good? I’m being 100% serious by the way; I watched the entire series but it definitely wasn’t as good as a lot of people said it was. I found it quite similar to the series “Hana Yori Dango”, which I preferred than this one. But I will admit the OP was very addicting. So yeah, end of story.

#12. Death Note OP 1 – “The World” by Nightmare

Here’s another cult anime classic that everybody has most likely watched. I think this anime was very powerful for a number of reasons and that’s why it did so well. Many people claim this series to be the “king of psychological horror” (although I personally don’t agree). But one thing I do agree on is that this OP was very good and deserves this spot on the list.

#11. Lucky Star OP – “Motteke! Sailor Fuku” by Hirano Aya, Katō Emiri, Fukuhara Kaori, and Endo Aya

And just missing out on the Top 10 is this awesome epic super-high-energy OP from “the greatest slice-of-life series” Lucky Star. It was probably most famous for being one of the few anime OP’s that nobody could sing along to (except for a few of those that listened to it a million times and ended up being able to in the end, such as myself). The funny thing about this OP is that it’s so high-energy and yet the series itself is the most layed back slice-of-life that you’ve ever seen. So well done Lucky Star. You will always remain in my heart.

And there we have it! That was #20 – #11 in The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time!
And finally, we are left with Top 10 on the list! This is going to get intense!
Stay tuned! 🙂

I love this absolutely! The only thing I’m a bit disappointed at is that not even the OP from Hunter x Hunter or one of the OP’s from Fairy Tail made it.
