Date A Live ~ Review
“An amazing tale of fairy girls, romance and dating!”
Do you like your romance? Do you like your fantasy? Do you like the fact that the main idea for this anime is that it is all about dating a bunch of fairy girls and making them like you? Well then have no fear, the perfect anime for you is right here! I only just finished this anime (at the time of writing) so I thought, what a perfect anime to begin the Spring 2013 Anime Season!
Date A Live is set on an Earth, where approximately thirty years ago, was struck by a strange phenomena called the “spacequake” which claimed the lives of 150 million people. Since then, there have been smaller spacequakes that happen all around the world. Itsuka Shidou, one day spots a mysterious girl in the spacequake zone. He learns from his sister, who happens to be the head of a secret organisation, that she is a Fairy, and that they are the cause of these spacequakes. Now Shidou is faced with the ultimate task of sealing the Fairy’s powers to stop the spacequakes. And in order to do that, he must take the Fairy out on a date and make her fall in love with him.
The anime incorporates many genres including sci-fi, supernatural and even psychological elements
The anime contains 12 episodes and aired during the Spring 2013 Anime Season (March 2013 – June 2013). The anime is originally based off the light novel series of the same name written by Tachibana Koushi and illustrated by Tsunako. The anime is animated by AIC PLUS+, one of seven divisions that are part of AIC (Anime International Company) Studios, who brought some great anime series including the Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai series, Record of Lodoss War and Sora no Otoshimono.
There a bunch of quite famous voice actors that make an appearance; actually to be more precise, there are a number of voice actresses that you would recognize like Inoue Marina who voices Touka (and is also known as the voices of Armin from Shingeki no Kyojin and Yozora from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai), Taketatsu Ayana who voices Kotori (and is also known as the voices of Azusa from K-ON and Kirino from Oreno Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai) and Togashi Misuzu who voices Origami (and is also known as the voices of Amano Yukiteru from Mirai Nikki and Mai from Nichijou).
Overall, I believe this anime was pretty decent in terms of story, plot and quality of animation. The stories moved along quite smoothly and without many negative areas and the characters were very well distinguished and depicted. In many streaming sites, this anime was voted very high in the Spring 2013 Anime Season (if you’re watching or have watched this particular season, you’ll know the series that is beating Date A Live). But if you like your romance, comedy, action, fantasy and sci-fi, then this series is definitely worth your time. It also seems that there is a good chance that there will be a season 2 so look out for that. Because I’m certainly very excited about it.
The Final Judgement:
Recommendation Level: 5/5 – Highly Recommended
Final Score: 8/10
