Dabsai Bunri no Crime Edge ~ Review
“Creepy, romantic and awesome all at the same time!?”
Now you’re in for a unique treat! Because this anime right here is a little different to your anime! And by that, it has an interesting mix of themes, genres and a very unique and interesting plot. I enjoyed very much, so I’m sure that if I introduce it to you all right here, you’ll feel the same way too!
Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge revolves around high school student Haibara Kiri, and his long obsession – or fetish – with people’s hair, especially cutting people’s hair. After stumbling into a house and meeting Mushanokouji Iwai; a girl who has extremely long hair, he finds out that her hair is cursed and that it cannot be cut. Kiri finds out that the one pair of scissors that he has been carrying with his entire life is a cursed item called the “Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge” (The Severing Crime Edge). He also finds out that there are others out there set to kill Mushanokouji Iwai using other cursed items in order to break the curse and fulfill their deepest wishes. In order to protect his beloved head of hair, Kiri must fight his inner and outer demons with the cursed Severing Crime Edge.
The anime is known for it’s unique storyline and mix of horror, psychological, romance and a certain level of ecchi
The anime ran for 13 episodes and ran during the Spring 2013 Anime Season (April 2013 – June 2013). The anime is based off a manga serialization of the same name that is still ongoing until this day. The anime is animated by Studio Gokumi, who are only small but have produced some recognizable series including A Channel, Koe de Oshigoto and Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!
Interestingly, the main voice actors are not that well-known and have only starred as minor characters up until this series. However, the anime still showcases some other voice actors that are more well-known including Uchiyama Yumi who voices Byouinzaka Houko (and is also known as the voices of Momiji from Binbougami-ga! and Shiratori Hitomi from Bakuman. 3), Fukuhara Kaori who voices Byouinzaka Yamane (and is also known as the voices of Tsukasa from Lucky Star and Hime from Acchi Kocchi) and Ishida Akira who voices Rulebook (and is also known as the voices of Gaara from Naruto and Katsura Kotaro from Gintama).
Overall, I thought this anime was very under-rated; unfortunately it didn’t get as much notice compared to other anime’s from the Spring 2013 Season. But I personally enjoyed this series very much; I just loved the interesting blends of genres and themes as well as the romantic scenes and action scenes melded together very cleanly and seamlessly. If you want to watch an anime that is a little different and unique to your usual fantasy/romance anime’s, then this one should be at the top of your list. And there seems to be a hint for season 2, but it hasn’t seem to be confirmed yet. Let’s wait and hope for the best.
The Final Judgement:
