Non Non Biyori ~ Review
“A nice little series that will relax your heart”
Ahh, slice of life anime… they’re fun and relaxing to watch and they’re a real lifesaver for days (or weeks) of stress and strain. Some slice-of-life anime are quite exciting and energetic in their comedy and slice-of-life-ness. While others, like this little series here, are so relaxing and cute that you’re bound to fall in love with it.
Non Non Biyori revolves around the little town of Asahigaoka, located far away in the mountains. It is here that city girl Hotaru has moved over with her family and has started attending the only school in the town, Asahigaoka Academy. The total number of students in this school is five; first-grader Renge, 7th-grader Natsumi, 8th-grader Komari and 9th-grader Suguru, and one teacher, Kazuho. Here, the five students spend their lives peacefully in the village, full of surprises and all sorts of strange and wonderful events.
The series is known for its relaxing mood and comedy
The series ran for 12 episodes and ran during the Fall 2013 Anime Season (October 2013 – December 2013). The series is based off a manga series written and illustrated by Atto. The series is animated by Silver Link Studios, who have created some series like Baka to Test to Shoukanjyuu, Strike The Blood and Kokoro Connect.
The series contains a number of talented and cute voice actresses including Koiwai Kotori who voice Renge (and is also known as the voices of Mushanokouji Iwai from Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge and Haroukitei Kigurumi from Joshiraku), Sakura Ayane who voices Natsumi (and is also known as the voices of Dairenji Suzuka from Tokyo Ravens and Merry from Yumekui Merry) and Asumi Kana who voices Komari (and is also known as the voices of Nyaruko from Haiyore! Nyaruko-san and Tsukuyomi Sasami from Sasami-san@Ganbaranai).
To be completely blunt, this anime is nothing special. In fact, it’s nothing fantastic. But hell, it sure is something worth watching. If you like your relaxing, cute, slice-of-life comedies, then this one will make yor heart fall into such ease. And it’s great to watch these types of anime series amidst all the wild and wacky, action-packed anime series every now and then. I don’t know, you may like this series, or you may not. But it doesn’t hurt to give this anime a try and see for yourself if you like it or not. Me personally though, I really enjoyed this cute little series; all the characters were cute and lovable and the execution of comedy was cute and funny. If you ant to get even a small chuckle out of something, then give this a twist.
