Top 100 Greatest Anime Endings Of All Time: #40 ~ #21
When we talk about anime endings, we’re talking about that 1 minute 30 seconds that closes off the awesomeness… or sometimes crappy-ness… of the episode that you just happened to watch. While you wait for the preview of the next episode, you delve yourself into the ending song and ending animation of the series that you love or hate. Much the same with anime openings, anime endings are just as important; the way that an anime ends each episode leaves a different impression on the anime until the next episode, whether that be good or bad.
But which anime endings are the best of the best?
Well, here is what the people of the online anime community has decided as being the Top 100 Greatest Anime Endings Of All Time! I did a similar Top 100 list with Anime Openings (check that out if you haven’t yet!) in which we received a ton of votes. This time, we have received a total of 2371 votes! That’s not as many as we received for The Top 100 Anime Openings List, but that is still a LOT of votes; enough to make a pretty accurate list.
So here, I present to you #40 to #21 in the Top 100 Greatest Anime Endings Of All Time!
#40. Aria ED – “Rainbow” by Round Table ft. Nino
To finish off the forties, we have this smoove and chilling ending from Aria the Animation (or simply Aria). Although I haven’t watched this anime just yet, I have heard this song before from a friend and it is so cute and chilling… it makes me all happy and stuff. So it’s no wonder that this ending was voted so high on the list, for it being a not-so-well known series. Good one!
#39. School Rumble ED 1 – “Onnanoko Otokonoko” by Ogura Yuuko
I should really give this anime a go, since I’ve seen it so many times in both this list and in the Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings List too… although just by listening to this song once or twice, I am really starting to like it; it’s just so damn catchy!! So I’m not complaining!
#38. Elfen Lied ED – “Be Your Girl” by Kawaba Chieko
Who would have thought that after one of the creepiest/saddest anime openings and it being on of the goriest and most messed-up anime series, we would be treated to such a up-beat, happy and catchy ending!? Talk about plot twists! …Although it technically has nothing to do with the plot. You gotta admit though, although the visuals are simple its a great song that surprisingly fits. So great job Elfen Lied! You made it onto both lists at an impressive score!
#37. Gankutsuou ED – “You Won’t See Me Coming” by Jean-Jacques Burnel
I’m sure you weren’t seeing this coming! (get it? :D) Seriously though, I’m SO happy this made it onto the list because if you guys don’t know, Jean-Jacques Burnel is the bassist for the English punk band The Stranglers and he not only wrote and sang this track, but he also wrote and sang the opening as well as most of the anime’s soundtrack! But this is personally his best track so well done JJ!
#36. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ED 2 – “Minna no Peace” by Afromania
OH MY GOD! THIS IS MY JAM!! Despite its ridiculously catchy and up-beat tune that makes you want to dance around your room like a little retard, I find this song kind of sad as it marked the end to an amazing anime series… but that doesn’t stop me from singing to my heart’s content to this ridiculously cool and awesome track! Love and Rock! Peace!
#35. Honey & Clover ED 1 – “Waltz” by Suneohair
One of my favourite J-rock bands is Suneohair, and I love how they used this track as an ending to a really sweet anime series like Honey & Clover. Something about Suneohair and Shaft Studios seem to fit really well with each other and this is the perfect example of such perfect combination. Great song!!
#34. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ED 1 – “Uso” by Shido
This ending is most notable for its art-style; almost as if everything was hand-animated with a bunch of crayons. No doubt the ending song is catchy as hell, but I wish they didn’t do that kind of art-style because it seriously doesn’t fit with the song. Either way, it’s a good song.
#33. Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni ED – “why, or why not” by Katakiri Rekka
One of the creepiest anime series is ended with a very chilling and relaxing ending song that is both beautiful and serine with its peaceful animations and background shifts. Personally I much preferred the opening but this ending is also not so bad. So I say, good work voters!
#32. Claymore ED – “Danzai no Hana ~Guilty Sky~” by Kozaka Riyu
To be completely honest, I never actually watched Claymore; I did read the manga though and it was epic. So this is really the first time I’ve heard the ending and it’s pretty epic. It definitely fits with the overall feel of the series so I can see why it got lots of votes. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was used as the opening either! Good work Claymore!
#31. Gosick ED 1 – “Resuscitated Hope” by Kominerisa
This series had a kickass opening that sadly didn’t make it onto the Top 100 Anime Openings list, but it seems like this ending was enough to get the people’s attention! And so it should! This is a great track to end an awesome series! I’m glad people realize the greatness of this series and its music!
#30. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ED 2 – “Let It Out” by Fukuhara Miho
Just when we thought we saw the first opening, straight after it comes the second one! And its no surprise; I much prefer this ending personally because it is just an epic song that you can easily sing along to of times when you’re down! It gets placed proudly on the 30th spot of this list!
#29. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ED – “Zessei Bijin” by Zetsubou Shoujo-tachi
Expect Shaft Studios to create a weird-ass ending for a weird-ass series, but make it one of the grooviest endings you’ll possibly ever hear in anime! The visuals are perfect for this song too, and it just smells of weird-and-awesome! Well deserved place of 29th!
#28. Fullmetal Alchemist ED 2 – “Tobira no Mukou he” by Yellow Generation
Well well well! It seems we have yet another Fullmetal Alchemist ending; this time from the first season! Not much I can say for this one; it’s a nice song that fits perfectly with the overall feel of the series up to that point. So, good job!
#27. Soul Eater ED 4 – “Strength” by Abingdon Boys School
I am so happy this song is on this list! Because this is easily one of the greatest songs – both opening and ending – to come out the Soul Eater series! That chorus though! It’s just… HEADBANG! So thank you voters, you made me one happy man!
#26. Welcome to the NHK ED 1 – “Odoru Akachan Ningen” by Ootsuki Kenji & Kitsutaka Fumihiko
Well… this is a weird ending… But who said weird endings couldn’t be epic!? Because this ending is weird yet freaking epic! I actually really like the animation for this ending; its just so cute yet cruel at the same time… I like it! And so should you!
#25. Gintama ED 5 – “Shura” by DOES
THIS SONG IS EPIC. THIS ANIME IS EPIC. THE ANIMATION IS EPIC. I LOVE GINTAMA WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL. NUFF SAID.
#24. Chrono Crusade ED – “Sayonara Solitaire” by Chiba Saeko
This is a really, really beautiful ending song. And who can say anything bad about the animation; its absolutely perfect for the song and it very well done and animated. I can’t complain about this placement in the list; its perfect.
#23. Ergo Proxy ED – “Paranoid Android” by Radiohead
I’m sure all of you who have never watched Ergo Proxy are surprised that they used a Radiohead song in their credits! Maybe because this song was absolutely perfect for this anime! The theme of paranoia and androids just matches the overall theme of this series. Although the ending animation was simple, it really made this ending something else!
#22. Code Geass ED 2 – “Mosaic Kakera” by SunSet Swish
This anime is just so chill! It’s just a song you want t sway your head to and just suck in the beautiful voice and lyrics. There are many disputes about this ending and the first ending for Code Geass, but it seems this ending won through the ranks to grab 22nd on the list!
#21. Bleach ED 1 – “Life Is Like A Boat” by Rie Fu
I absolutely love this song… it has one of the most touching lyrics and sound to it. I really do like the fact that they incorporated it with Bleach because it matches very well. I just wish the ending wasn’t so damn short!! But either way, good work voters!!
There we have it! That was #40 – #21 on The Top 100 Greatest Anime Endings of All Time!
