Black Rock Shooter ~ Review
“An epic tale that make you feel more human that you think you will ever be”
I have a feeling I have been saying this a lot in my recent reviews, but I absolutely love this series. Like the title puts it, Black Rock Shooter has a very strange tale of making the viewer feel very human. But I guess if you knew what the series is about, then you would nod in agreement. If you have ever seen this however, you would shake my hand vigorously in agreement.
The story takes place between two different universes; the first universe is much like ours and consists of a group of schoolgirls living their lives normally. In this universe is a girl called Mato Kuroi, who becomes friends with a girl called Yomi Takanashi. As the two get closer together, at the same time they grow further apart; carrying struggles and becoming jealous of Mato long-term friend, Yu. The second consists of a strange girl called Black Rock Shooter, a black haired girl who continues to fight anything that stands in her way. In this world, Black Rock Shooter meets many girls like her; no emotion, and their only instinct is to fight. One day, Yomi disappears and Mato is sent into a strange world, where she meets Black Rock Shooter. Now Mato must fight Black Rock Shooter save her friend and to save herself from “the pain” that her and Black Rock Shooter have experienced.
The anime series is known for its intense action scenes and the extreme high quality of artwork and camera work
The Black Rock Shooter franchise began with a variety of illustrations by Ryohei “Huke” Fuke, which gained the attention of Supercell, a Japanese music group, that created a song influence to these illustrations, which gained high popularity throughout the Internet. A 50-minute OVA (original video animation) was created, which ultimately sparked the anime series franchise. The anime series became very successful, the series being later adapted into manga series and a game. The anime series was also awarded for technical achievement in broadcast animation at the 65th Motion Picture and Television Engineering Society of Japan Awards in 2012.
Black Rock Shooter deal with such themes as pain, loneliness, human frailty, human weakness and the importance of maintaining strong bonds between friends and people. This is one of those anime’s that definitely makes you feel warm inside and will really make you reconsider the relationships that you hold between your friends and loved ones. As the anime series is both entertaining, exciting and gives us all a life moral to live by, I rank this very high on my list and I definitely recommend this series if you ave not already watched it.
