The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time: #10 – #1

~ The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time: #10 – #1 ~

Anime openings… it’s only a short minute and a half long, but it gives us just that little glimpse of the big picture. The stories, the characters and the overall feel of the anime series can be presented so well (and entertainingly) in a minute and a half. Us anime watchers love those anime openings; whether it’s listening to the song, watching the animation sequence, or in most cases: both! Some anime openings are better than others in more than many ways… but which are the best of the best?

Well, here it is! The Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time as chosen by you! The anime lovers, fans and fanatics of the online wonderland!
I’ve been collecting votes for about 2 months, and the feedback was extraordinary.
In a little under 2 months, we managed to collect a whopping 3473 VOTES!
That’s truly amazing! And I thank each and every one of you that voted! Thanks to you guys, I managed to create a list that truly separated the good openings from the epic openings.
Although I had absolutely no part in this list, it seems that my anime-music sense was spot on with the rest of the community; most of my favourite’s obtaining a spot in the top 100.

Well… without further ado, let’s start presenting the Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings of All Time!
I have spit the list into a number of parts (to gain a little tension effect) so for this post, here is #10 to #1 in the Top 100 Greatest Anime Openings of All Time!

#10. Bleach OP 5 – “Rolling Star” by YUI

To open up the Top 10 is this classic OP from Bleach by none other than YUI. This OP was awesome as it was aired at the time where Bleach started to get pretty interesting and awesome. Personally, this OP is one of the few that really made Bleach awesome for me, and I’m sure it did for a lot of other people too. Great OP.

#9. Bleach OP 2 – “D-Technolife” by Uverworld

I have heard a lot of people comment this OP being the best, but I’ll have to disagree. Although this OP was freaking awesome, there was a better one. And I’m a huge fan of Uverworld’s stuff, so I absolutely love this song. I think song really helped Uverworld rise to the fame that they are basking in today. Great song for a great OP.

#8. Full Metal Alchemist OP 4 – “Rewrite” by Asian Kung-fu Generation

Now this is what you call a f**king epic-beyond-words OP! I still remember listening to/watching this OP for the first time while I was watching FMA during it’s airing, and this OP is by far my most favourite. It was also the song that made me an Asian Kung-fu Generation fan. This OP will always be the one that will make me smile on a crappy day.

#7. Death Note OP 2 – “What’s up, People?” by Maximum the Hormone

I don’t even need to tell you why this OP made it to #7… just watch this OP. Just watch it. Do I  even need to say anything? In all seriousness though, this OP became famous for being…different to anything we’ve ever seen in an anime OP up until this. And this is also the song that made me a huge fanboy of Maximum The Hormone. Although many people disliked the music, it still didn’t change the fact that it made Death Note one of the most badass anime’s till date.

#6. Air OP – “Tori no Uta” by Lia

To be honest, I am really surprised that this OP made it this far up the list. And not in a bad way; hell, this OP along with this series is what made Key one of the greatest of the anime world! But I’m surprised because I thought that not many people watched this series compared to other anime’s. But I guess that I was very wrong indeed! This OP though, is pretty amazing; it gives you that feel of serenity along with the series. Outstanding.

#5. Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex OP – “Inner Universe” by Origa

Look at this sh*t. This right here is the material that made Ghost In The Shell one of the greatest cyberpunk anime’s to be ever created. And it’s also why Ghost In The Shell is still regarded as one of the greatest even today. This OP is just amazing, but what’s really noteworthy is how epic the song is. If it was a different song, this OP would definitely not have been the same. Amazing OP.

#4. Bleach OP 1 – “Asterisk” by Orange Range

I mentioned before that in my heart, there is that one OP that will always be Bleach to me. And that is this OP right here. I guess it really is true when they say that the original’s will always be the best, because it was certainly the case with Bleach! But c’mon, how many of us liked this OP so much and attempted to sing along (and failed miserably)?

#3. Neon Genesis Evangelion OP – “Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis” by Takahashi Yoko

If there is one anime series that will never die, it is this one right here. Regarded by many as one of the greatest things to come out of Japan (besides anime, of course), Neon Genesis Evangelion all started with this OP right here. And after all these years, this OP is still one of the most loved OP’s all around the world. And I’m really pumped for the next movie; who else is?

#2. Elfen Lied OP – “Liluim” by Noma Kumiko

Who would’ve thought that second place on the greatest anime openings of all time is sung in Latin, right? Well if you haven’t watched this series yet, then you might not appreciate how beautiful this OP and animation is. Because although there is a lot of speculation, I believe Elfen Lied is one of the few 10/10 anime’s that I have watched )read my review for more details). I really want this played at my funeral, to be honest.

#1. Cowboy Bebop OP – “Tank!” by The Seatbelts

And the greatest anime opening of all time, as chosen by you is this piece of genius called Cowboy Bebop. An instrumental jazz piece is number 1? That’s absurd! If you’re saying that to yourself right now, then you need to be shot and killed. Because without a doubt, no questions asked, this OP is being loved by every human that has watched Cowboy Bebop up to this day.
And it’s amazing to think that this was made back in 1998, and yet it is still regarded as the greatest. You know that an OP is awesome when it still rises to the top 15 years after it was made!

So there we have it! That was The Greatest Anime Openings Of All Time, as chosen by you guys!

Cowboy Bebop at #1, yeah, it deserves to be there, it’s my favorite at least, but where’s Shingeki? This list was made long after Shingeki started airing, and that was the best OP in recent years, at least since 2011.

As soon as I started reading this list I just KNEW that the Cowboy Bebop OP would be #1. Such a well deserved spot.

No Black Butler, Jormungand, Michiko to Hatchin or Sakamichi no Apollon. but apart from that, I’m in the same as you and the rest 😀

Seems like the only thing this list got right was Tank at #1 , and to be honest it’s a bit unfair to even have Bebop on this list .

To be honest, I wish that the Kuroshitsugi theme was on this list, because it is definitely one of the best. Seriously, curious as to why it wasn’t on here…

You are way off in some of these. Gurren lagaan op should be up in top 10, the best op from bleach was rolling star and all i remember from deathnotes ops is screaming but it did fit the anime. Also fmab’s 1st op was better then the 4th as it pretty much told a story just by watching the opening and listening to the music. Can get an idea from how epic it could be from that op i reckon

the reason i reckon gurren lagaan should be up there is because its hard to get sick of that op and how they incorporated it in the final battle just made it more epic.

I think the opening to Tower of Druaga season 1 (Swinging by Maramusa) should also be on this list, along with the opening to the show called Another
